項目背景
The Becker Friedman Institute Price Theory Summer Camp at HKU is going to be held in the coming August at the University of Hong Kong. Jointly organized by the Becker Friedman Institute, the University of Chicago and the University of Hong Kong, this will be the first time the summer camp is held outside of Chicago.
The initiative on Price Theory was originally established in Autumn 2004 as a University-wide research center administered by the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. The goal behind its creation was to sustain and strengthen the University of Chicago’s leading role in price theory – economic research that combines theory and data to analyse the fundamental role of markets and incentives in explaining virtually all aspects of modern life.
The one-week intensive Price Theory Summer Camp was created to introduce PhD students to price theory, which emphasises the application of basic economic tools to the investigation of everyday problems. Students will learn from a University of Chicago faculty specialised in price theory and experience a series of “Chicago-style” seminars. Participants will also treasure the opportunity to work on problem sets and discuss their own work with some of the world’s leading economists in the summer camp.
This summer camp will be conducted by Professor Kevin Murphy, the first professor at a business school to be chosen as a MacArthur Fellow, which a prize awarded annually by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation typically to between 20 and 30 individuals, working in any field, who have shown "extraordinary originality and dedication in their creative pursuits and a marked capacity for self-direction" and are citizens or residents of the United States.
